Hi there! My name is Sophia Kamveris, but I go by Sophie. I am a Registered Dietitian and Licensed Nutritionist. I read a lot of “About Me’s” on people's websites. I'd love to say that I got into the field of nutrition because of an AHA! moment, but I got into it long before nutrition became the "It" thing in health and wellness. I’ve learned a lot about people along the way. How to read them, evaluate their needs, and assess what they are capable of accomplishing. My approach is designed to match the personality of each person that walks into my office.
My personal journey transcends decades of diverse professional experiences. I think it’s important to share that with you. I earned a Bachelor of Science degree, with a focus in Dietetics, from the University of New Hampshire and following a {once in a lifetime} backpacking trip through Europe, completed a Masters degree program in Nutrition. I often wonder had I not returned to the states to attend graduate school, where I would be today??
I worked as a clinical dietitian at Metro West Medical Center before joining the Marriott Corporation. As a member of their health care team, I was the Clinical Nutrition Manager at the Faulkner Hospital and the Beth Israel Deaconess Glover Hospital. I also worked at the Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center as the Patient Services Manager, where I further developed my food management and hospitality skills.
My affinity for teaching grew while serving as a Nutrition Education Specialist at St. Elizabeth’s Medical Center. I have been a clinical instructor in the Cardiac Rehabilitation, Diabetes and Lipid Clinics, as well as a guest speaker at assorted health and wellness programs in the greater Boston area.
Working in conjunction with the Department of Defense, I also directed the military’s nutrition program, servicing active duty personnel and their dependents at Hanscom Air Force Base. In an academic capacity, I have served as a preceptor for dietetic interns and graduate students from Boston University and Framingham State College.
Currently, I maintain a private practice in Arlington, Massachusetts where I provide personalized, one-on-one counseling in my office. I also work with companies to design customized, workplace wellness programs for their employees and am a Health Consultant for the Food and Beverage Industry.
Did I forget to mention that I love to write? In February 2019, MY very own book I authored on gout, entitled The 28-Day Gout Diet Plan was released ! WooHoo!! I was also the technical reviewer for The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Eating Well with IBS, The Complete Idiot’s Guide to DASH Diet Cooking, and The Complete Idiot’s Guide to the TLC Diet. I am also the editor, as well as one of the Nutrition Specialists, for Dietitians of New England. I have published articles and am a contributing writer for ShapeFit, a health and fitness web site. Be sure to check out my blogs and newsletters!
I am an active member of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics and its Massachusetts chapter where I have served as a member of the Vendor Committee for ten years. I think I missed my calling for sales! I am licensed in the states of Massachusetts and New Hampshire to provide Medical Nutrition Therapy counseling.
An avid fitness enthusiast (despite my aches and pains!), I enjoy my “time-out” on my rowing machine and at Pilates classes. Not to sound like a dating ad, but I love walking the beach and collecting sea glass. And someday (soon, I hope!), my many unpublished, children’s book manuscripts will find homes in colorfully illustrated binders!
