Most blogs (including mine) at this time of the year usually talk about how to avoid weight gain during the holidays. There are thousands of tips floating around the Internet if you need pointers. Rather, this year I am reinforcing the importance of sharing and giving back at this joyous time of the year. Embrace the season by volunteering to help others.
Each year, in keeping with the spirit of giving that symbolizes the holiday season, as a way to say thanks to my referring healthcare community, I make a monetary donation to an organization that helps better the lives of others. There are so many worthy causes. I vary it annually and have selected Doctors Without Borders, St Jude’s, an organization that ensures third world countries have clean drinking water, multiple Boston shelters that provide holiday meals for the homeless, and my favorite is always the Make-A-Wish foundation.
Too many people in the world face daily hardships in comparison to what I consider my most valuable fortune of good health. I’m grateful that I can make a difference in their lives, if only in some small way. I hope you can, as well.
Happy Holidays!
